Field Hockey Canada and Field Hockey BC are proud to host the Senior National Field Hockey Championships for both Men and Women at UVic Vikes Field from Wednesday, June 30 to Sunday July 4, 2010.

The women’s competition features four BC teams including the BC Island, BC Mainland, BC U18 White and BC U18 Blue. Several of your top island athletes will be competing including island senior national team athletes Robyn Pendleton, Katie Collison, Ali Lee and Diana Roemer. Junior national team island stars include Maddie Secco, Sarah Keglowitsch, Bridget McGillivray, Kyla Pronk, Jaymie Tucker and Zoe Berkey. Also competing are teams from Alberta, Ontario and PEI.

The men’s competition features only two BC teams – the Senior and U18 teams. The Senior team is composed entirely of national team members including island product Mark Erickson. Also competing in the men’s division are teams from the USA, Alberta and Ontario.

Games begin 10:00am this Wednesday with the official Opening ceremonies occurring at 11:30am. Games will proceed from then until Sunday afternoon where the gold medal games will wrap up the tournament.

The Sailors Field Hockey Club of Victoria, BC is proud to show their support in two of their club athletes (Ali Lee and Robyn Pendleton) that are competing at the International level with Canada and at Senior Nationals for BC. In support of these two athletes, the Sailors Field Hockey Club will be selling t-shirts to help them raise money in order to reach their fundraising goals. The Rebels Sports Club will be hosting DROP-IN FIELD HOCKEY through the summer at the UVIC artificial turf field. It is recreational with all levels of play welcome using a mixed ladies and men drop-in format – we just divide up the sticks and play either a full field or 2 seven-a-side games (depending on how many show up that night).

DATES: Monday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 beginning June 28 until August 30th except August 2nd (BC Day Holiday)

COST: $5 per session or $30 for the entire summer

5-6pm : Ages 5-12
Hockey fun camp with games, relays, competitions, prizes and an "elite athlete skills demo" ($10 minimum suggested donation)

7-8pm : Ages 13-18
3vs3 Hockey Buster tournament – you can make your own teams of 3 or register as a single. Dress up, or just come to play – prizes for the winning team! ($10/single or $25/team)

Please bring a post-dated cheque (June 30, 2010) payable to Field Hockey BC (FHBC) of $60 for FHBC members or $80 for non-FHBC members.

New umpire’s who commit to umpiring a minimum of 6 games in the Greater Victoria Junior Field Hockey Spring League will have their cheques returned.

Participants will be given information about umpire training in the Junior League during the clinic.

**Please note that you must be a minimum age of 13 to attend this course.
